Furnace Cane glass beads are made
using ancient techniques originally employed in Italy as
early as the 15th century. The "furnace" part of the name
comes from the process they are made from, which requires a large
glass
furnace, as well as an annealing kiln
to give the
beads
superior
strength. The "cane" part of their name comes from
the glass pulling technique used, similar to how millefiori beads
are made. Rods of heated glass, or canes, are placed and melted
together, then pulled, and cut to the desired shape.
Furnace Cane beads are unique because the long rods of color embedded
into clear or slightly colored glass appear as long stripes when
veiwed from one angle, or as tiny dots when viewed from
another
angle. These are truly beautiful beads!
We carry Chinese furnace cane glass beads, which are very cost
effective, and the colors
are bright and vibrant.
